Mikey was born and raised in the East Bay. He graduated from the University of San Francisco with a bachelor’s in Medicinal and Synthetic Chemistry. Prior to joining the Cell Design Institute (CDI), he did research on determining the role of mitochondria retained in blood cells in Sickle Disease pediatric patients. At CDI, he is currently optimizing large non-viral knock-in methods and anti-cancer circuit architecture. Outside of the lab, Mikey likes to try new food places and cafes. Additionally, he plays bass for Ruby Ibarra, the winner of NPR’s 2025 TinyDesk competition.
